Thirteen children learned emergency skills that could mean the difference

between life and death during a training camp at the BVI Red Cross Headquarters last month.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20-24, children aged 6-13 took part in activities centred around the “fundamental principles of the Red Cross:” first aid, CPR, hand hygiene, earthquake and hurricane preparedness, and fire safety, the press release said.

The week’s sessions led up to a simulated car accident where two casualties were in need of immediate care.

BVI Red Cross Director Helen Frett said she hopes to continue the summer camp for two weeks next July.

The BVI Red Cross is a non-profit organisation focused on meeting the needs of vulnerable people here and abroad, according to the press release.

Prospective volunteers, who are always welcome, may contact 494-6349 or info@bviredcross.org.
