The legal framework for the Virgin Islands’ coming National Health Insurance programme is being drafted now, and government officials want the public to weigh in.

Dr. Irad Potter, chief medical officer, answered questions about the coming National Health Insurance programme from residents in Cane Garden Bay last Thursday evening. Speaking last Thursday night in Cane Garden Bay at the first such meeting, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Irad Potter and Roy Barry, who heads the NHI division of the Social Security Board, said residents should learn all they can about the programme and voice any concerns.

“We invite you to note your questions and send them in to us,” Dr. Potter said. “We don’t want any unanswered questions.”

Based on residents’ concerns, Mr. Barry added, officials can recommend changes to the draft NHI legislation, which is set to come into effect in time to launch the new programme in August.
