Youth are the focus of the Department of Agriculture’s 21st Farmers’ Week tomorrow through Feb. 8, according to Government Information Services.

“I am hoping that young people come out to Farmers’ Week this year. I hope that parents make an effort to bring their children and that the community sees the significance of this celebration,” said Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering, who is the minister of natural resources and labour. “Without the involvement of the youth, farming and agriculture cannot be continued.”

The theme for this year’s event is “Sustain Ourselves and Secure Our Future by Training Youth in Agriculture.”

An opening ceremony is to start Friday at 10 a.m. at Paraquita Bay, where an agricultural exhibition will follow on Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday the celebrations move to Anegada, on Tuesday to Jost Van Dyke, and next Thursday to Virgin Gorda.

The event will culminate with a food fair and closing ceremony in the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town on Feb. 8.
