On Sunday more than 30 mountain bikers competed in the BVI Mountain Bike Club’s annual Anegada Desert Duel race.

Philippe Leroy won the race in 1:16 hours.  Anthony Spencer came in second followed by Dave Pettigrew.

Carolina Pettigrew was the top cyclist in the Women’s Division, which had three competitors.

Jude Kinkead won the Junior Division and 10 cadets competed on a shorter course.

Three individuals also competed in the event by running 4.4 miles. Steve Asson was first to cross the finish line, followed by Ravi Sukhu and Oniasih Nimade.

The BVIMC will host its “biggest race of the season” on May 19. The 37-mile Tour de Tortola will have pre-registration on May 16 at Village Cay and May 18 at Last Stop Sports.

Last year’s champions are Sally Blackmore and Orano Andrews, who has won it four times.

Organisers will also feature a shorter course for  “those not wishing to do the whole thing” and an early start time to “avoid some of the heat and have a slightly more relaxing ride.”
