The Multi-purpose Sports Complex looked less like a sports facility than a market and commercial centre as 47 businesses set up displays of goods and services on Friday and Saturday.
These businesses were part of the Buy BVI Trade Expo organised by the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association. Items on display ranged from furniture to make-up, from pastries to wine, from cleaning products to cellular phones. Dozens of visitors milled around the facility, viewing and sampling products as they were serenaded by music from disc jockeys and entertainment groups. The annual event is designed to showcase local businesses to the community, according Birney Harrigan, BVICCHA chair. “The main purpose is to bring the business community to get with the customers to share a great shopping experience,” Ms. Harrigan said, adding that this year’s participation was greater than previous years’. The event was themed “Local Allegiance Over Travel Inconvenience.”
