Bregado Flax Educational Centre students considered life after high school last Thursday and Friday during the school’s annual career fair for third- through fifth-formers.
Among the presenters at the event were officers of the Forensic Unit of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force; Shereen Flax and Natasha Chalwell of the BVI Tourist Board; Tamara Archibald-Gill of the BVI Health Services Authority and others. “The industry of tourism is one of the largest in the world,” Ms. Chalwell told the students, as she explained tourism job opportunities available in the Virgin Islands. “In the BVI, one of three persons is employed in this sector.” The accommodation sector, in particular, offers many jobs, as it employs people in hotels, restaurants and yachts, she added. “These large hotels need financial accountants” in addition to cleaners and chefs, Ms. Chalwell told the students. She added, “If you are a creative person, you can work in the food and beverage sector. Working in the food and beverage sector has to do with welcoming costumers. You have to be very friendly.”
