Since last week, two male tourists have died while swimming at beaches at Nanny Cay and Cane Garden Bay.
Anthony Casswell, 86, and Lloud Schrouder, 54, were pronounced dead on Jan. 2 and Jan. 6, respectively, police said. Mr. Casswell arrived on Black Watch cruise ship and reportedly was swimming at Nanny Cay Beach at about 2 p.m. when he was pulled from the water and transported to Peebles Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m., and an autopsy is pending. His wife said he suffered from heart problems, according to police spokeswoman Diane Drayton. Mr. Schrouder was visiting from the United Kingdom aboard the cruise ship Sea Princess and reportedly was swimming at Cane Garden Bay beach when lifeguards responded to a distress situation. The visitor was pulled from the water at about 1 p.m., and lifeguards performed CPR until a rescue unit arrived, according to witness accounts. Mr. Schrouder had a weak pulse and vomited food and liquids during rescue attempts, one witness stated. He was then rushed to Peebles Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:15 p.m., police reported. He was visiting with at least four other family members, including his wife, Ms. Drayton said. His death is under investigation, and an autopsy will be performed today, she added.
